Why bottled water?
Drinking water is much much healthier than consuming sugary drinks like gatorade and carbonated sodas. People are constantly consuming liquids throughout the day, and although it is ideal that one could drink filtered water from the sink or through a large 5-gallon water dispenser, for the active individual, this is seemingly impossible. Bottled water gives you the flexibility of grabbing a beverage while on the run without worrying about taking the time to fill up and top off your container.

Especially when you’re outside already at the mall, or other sporting event, finding tap water can literally be impossible. And as important as it is to drink lots of water throughout the day, surveys are constantly indicating that most of us are not drinking enough water.

Federal Regulations
The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) regulates the quality and content of bottled water. Under the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, bottled water manufacturers are responsible for providing and producing safe, wholesome, and accurately labeled products. To misbrand or adulterate information is a violation of the law and strictly enforced. According to their standards, bottled water must have no added ingredients other than safe and suitable antimicrobial agents.

Different origins of bottled water
Artesian well weater: This is water from a well that tap through layers of porous rock, sand and earth. When the water is tapped, the pressure of the different surfaces pushes the water above everything else and to the surface. The EPA classifies this water as more pure due to the confining and restricting layers of rock and clay that filter the contamination.

Mineral water:This water comes from an underground source that has at least 250 parts per million total dissolved solids. The minerals MUST come from the source of the underground water and CANNOT be added later.

Spring water:This water comes naturally from an underground source and which flows to the top. The water must be collected at the spring or through tapping into the underground source that feeds the spring. The water collected must have the same composition and quality as the water that flows naturally to the surface.

Different types of water treatment:
Distillation: When water is turned into vapor. The minerals within the water are too heavy to vaporize as well and so are left behind. The collected vapor is condensed back to water.

Reverse osmosis: When water is filtered through membranes to remove minerals

Absolute 1 micron filtration: When water is filtered through membranes that have holes that are less than 1 micron in size. Protozoans like Cryptosporidium are effectively filtered out.

Ozonation:Ozone gas, an antimicrobial agent, is used to disinfect the water. This is used in replacement of chlorine because chlorine can leave a residual taste and odor.
